Father and Son

This year I could fulfill a desire to photograph this extraordinary species in Spain. Last year spring was very late there and so the Black-winged Kite (Elanus caeruleus) was not nesting in the region where images are possible. The little raptor has large wings, sometimes gliding along with the wings in a V-position, you can see the relation between body and wings on the image. The bird lives primarily in semi-desert areas and steppe habitats in sub-Saharan Africa and tropical Asia. In Europe there are populations in Spain and Portugal, but also in southern France. Very few sightings in history in Austria and Germany. I had to be very sensitive not to disturbe the animals while weather conditions were not the best. The young were already fledged but returned for resting into the nest. I like the beautiful red eyes of the adults. The image with some kind of dynamic effects was taken after sunset short before 21:00, where both an adult and a juvenile bird were on the tree together for a short time.
