Feeding Time

A male small tree finch (Camarhynchus parvulus) feeds his chicks in the highlands of the Galápagos Islands. In males of this species, head and throat progressively turn darker with each passing year. The fully black head and throat indicate that this individual is at least five years old. Photo taken during a scientific study on the breeding behaviour of Darwin’s finches.
