Life is Life

As I walked along a pond at sunset, I got aware of some movement in the reed. Coming closer, I saw a Grass Snake trying to swallow a big toad and having it already half in its mouth. Fortunately I had my camera with me, but it was hard to get a shot because there were a lot of disturbing plants around. The toad was fighting for life making some strange noise and ballooned itself up to a much bigger size. It took a long time, while the snake tried to get its prey inside millimeter for millimeter, at last the toad seemed to be too big and the snake gave up. The toad escaped with some teeth marks into the pond on the left side of me and the grass snake was gliding hungry back into the water on the right side.
