Sacred Icon

This great frigatebird (Fregata minor) is still a juvenile,  but already a veritable master of the sky. Frigatebirds can stay aloft for months at a time and soar in heights of up to 4 kilometers. Ancient Polynesians venerated these birds for their aerial skills, but also used them as carrier pigeons between islands due to their excellent homing skills.
