Sh*t Happens

Nuthatches like all bird parents are very caring to raise their children. It is hard work to bring food for the chicks, as they always give the signal to be hungry. Besides the adults have to fulfill other duties like warming, cooling or cleaning the squabs. If there is so much food disappearing in the begging bills there has something to come out on the other end. To keep the breeding burrow clean the parents carry away the excreta, which are firm packages to be handled easily.
